Alpha JX vs TOTO C5 Washlet: Bidet Comparison

A

The Alpha JX and TOTO Washlet C5 are two of the most popular mid-range bidet seats in the US. Each packs a plethora of useful features and impressive tech. The JX is Alpha Bidet’s best selling bidet seat and has racked up numerous awards from major publications.

The Washlet C5 is also TOTO’s best selling model and is a fan favorite. But which model is right for you? What are their differences and stand out features? Continue watching to take an in depth look at each model and break down their technology and key features.

Alpha JX vs TOTO C5 Washlet

Design

The Alpha JX has been Alpha Bidet’s best selling model for nearly half a decade. It’s been awarded Best Overall Bidet in 2021, 2022, and 2023 by CNN Underscored and has beat out the competition from TOTO, Bio Bidet, Brondell, and more for 3 years running in their rigorous performance testing.

The Alpha JX comes in a slim and modern design compared to other models in its price range. It has a height of only 5.5 inches in the rear and has a sturdy sittable lid. Its unique rounded rear-end helps the JX fit into more compact toilet bowls which would otherwise be incompatible with bulkier bidet seats.

The TOTO Washlet C5 is the mid-range option in the TOTO Washlet line and has a sleeker build than the older C200 generations with an impressive 5.7 inches in the rear. It has a sleek and modern look, but does not have a sittable lid or in-bowl LED night light like the JX.

Both the JX and the C5 are available in round and elongated sizes.

Both models are controlled by wireless remote controls.  They also have auxiliary buttons located at the rear which can be used to control some of the core features such as rear wash.

The JX has its water connection coming out from the left while its electrical cord is located on the right. The C5 Washlet has both its water connection and electrical cord coming from its left side.

Spray Capabilities

The Alpha JX and TOTO Washlet C5 both offer above average spray pressures when set to their max settings. Their cleansing abilities are evenly matched with both models offering excellent performance and strong sprays.

The C5 has an additional soft, wide spray function that the JX lacks for users that prefer it.

Both models have similar front feminine wash functions.

Water Heating

A key difference between the Alpha JX and TOTO C5 stems from their water heating methods. The Alpha JX uses an efficient tankless water heating system which grants users unlimited, on demand warm water during the wash cycle. The C5, however, uses a tank type water heater which only allows for about 30-45 seconds of warm water before the spray turns cooler.

Unique Features

Both the Alpha JX and TOTO C5 have a long list of useful features and while they have many similarities, each model has some unique features that the other lacks.

  • LED Night Light – The Alpha JX has an in bowl LED night light that will come in handy during those late night bathroom visits. The nightlight can be turned on and off manually or be programmed to turn on during low light settings. The TOTO C5, unfortunately, does not have an LED nightlight.
  • Sittable Lid – The Alpha JX has a sittable lid rated to support weights up to 320 pounds. The TOTO C5 does not have a sittable lid.
  • E Water+ – The TOTO Washlet C5 has TOTO’s exclusive EWATER+ feature which converts the ions in your tap water into a gentle cleansing agent that helps clean the bidet’s nozzle. The JX has nozzle sterilization but not EWATER+ sterilization.
  • Premist – The C5 has a premist feature that sprays the bowl before each use, helping to keep your toilet bowl clean.
  • Shortcut Functions – The JX has a one button wash n’ dry feature that automatically does a full rear wash cycle, stops, then a full warm air drying cycle. It also has a 1 button Easy Wash function that does a full pressure rear wash with oscillation in one press. The C5 does not have these features.
  • User Presets – The TOTO Washlet C5 has two user presets that can be programmed to save the seat temperature, water temperature, nozzle spray pressure, and nozzle position for two users. The JX does not have this feature.
  • Deodorizer – The TOTO Washlet C5 features a deodorizing function that helps reduce bathroom odors that the JX lacks.

Remote Control

Both the Alpha JX and TOTO Washlet C5 offer wall mounted wireless remote controls. The JX has a remote with an LCD screen that shows settings related to seat temperature, water temperature, nozzle pressure, and more. The C5 remote is larger in size and does not have an LCD screen, but instead opts for a dual sided design with additional functional controls on the back.

Warranty

The Alpha JX is covered by a 3 year full manufacturers warranty, whereas the TOTO Washlet C5 only offers a 1 year warranty.

Conclusion

Both the Alpha JX and TOTO Washlet C5 offer great features. Picking between the two may come down to which specific features you prefer. If you prefer a bidet with unlimited warm water, sittable lid, LED night light, shortcut functions, and a longer warranty period, then the JX is the bidet for you. If you prefer a bidet backed by the TOTO brand name with user presets, bowl pre-misting, and a softer wide spray option, then the C5 might just be for you. You can’t go wrong either way.
